Residents and population

The quality of life in Massachusetts is considered one of the highest in the United States, and there are also excellent educational institutions of international renown such as the well-known Harvard University. However, life here is also relatively expensive and Boston has its price on real estate and living expenses. You will hardly notice it on a holiday, but if you want to emigrate here, you should take this into account.

But Massachusetts has almost everything for it: beaches, cities, cozy villages, one of the nationwide metropolises (of course Boston), forests, lakes and a lifestyle and character that is relatively similar to Europe. Here life is still strongly influenced by the "old" 乐乐棋牌 of the first American settlers. Stronger than in Spanish Southern California or Texas.

The strongest religion is the Catholic Church, the majority of its inhabitants are of Irish and Italian origin. The state has some beautiful scenic features, such as the charming Cape Cod, the headland with the beautiful long sandy beaches on the Atlantic or the hilly landscape in the Berkshire region towards New York, where you can still find cozy villages.

Attractions in Massachusetts

The most famous sight is the Bunker Hill Monument, which is said to commemorate the great battle of 1775. There is also the Museum of Fina Arts and Fenway Park Stadium, where the Red Sox baseball team plays. There are numerous beaches for sun worshipers, such as on the Cape Code peninsula or Nantucket. The state is divided into six regions and leaves nothing to be desired for visitors. Here everyone will find what they are longing for.

Much has its origin in Massachusetts. Among them is the beginning of the American Revolution, the first university and even the first emails were invented here. Even the Bee Gees honored Massachusetts in one of your songs. In addition to the artifacts with a historical background, there are miles of coastline with white sandy beaches and the elegant Boston, which is always worth a visit.

Boston and surrounding area

Boston is America's oldest city with a 400-year history. If you want to delve into the history of the USA, you should go on the Freedom Trail. On the opposite side of the river is the world famous city of Cambridge. MIT and Harvard University are located here.

Concord and Lexington

The American Revolution began in these two cities in April 1775. If you want to know exactly what happened then you should visit the Minute Man National Historic Park. Important writers such as Louisa May Alcott, Walden Pond, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nathaniel Hawthorne once lived in Concord.

Cape Cod

This area is also a sight. There are a total of 115 clean and idyllic beaches here. This peninsula rises 96 kilometers into the Atlantic and has many of the oldest villages in the United States. Some of them are Wellfleet, Sandwich or Chatham. Whale watching can be done from Princetown. There are also many restaurants in this artists' district.

Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket

You should definitely visit these two places during your stay in Massachusetts. Martha's Vinyard is around an hour away by ferry. Here the beaches are still untouched, there are fine shops and numerous bike trails. The island of Nantucket with its postcard idyll is around 48 kilometers from the mainland. The island used to be a whaling port. Today Nantucket is an elegant island with exclusive shops and restaurants. Fishing and relaxing on the beach are popular here.

Old Sturbridge Village

Anyone interested in country life in the 1830s should visit Old Sturbridge Village. This replica city is in central Massachusetts and has over 40 original buildings from that period. Here is the largest open-air museum with historical artifacts. It shows how cooking on an open hob works and how local handicrafts are made. A ride in the stagecoach and a baseball game round off the visit.

The history of Massachusetts

The first settlement took place in 1614 by the European John Smith. The Indians living here allied themselves against the colonists in 1675, but had to flee to neighboring Canada or the Hudson River after the end of the King Philipp War. As of this year, the Indians were prohibited from re-entering Boston. This law was only repealed in 2005. The state was one of the 13 colonies that rebelled against British rule. The constitution that was passed in 1780 is still in force today. It is considered the most modern and oldest constitution worldwide.

People are proud of the first Puritans, the Mayflower and the Pilgrim Fathers. Here is one of the cradles of the United States and in Boston the American War of Independence began with the Boston Tea Party. The history of the United States comes to life here and there are only a few regions in the United States with so many historical evidence of the American past.

Massachusetts became the leading industrial state in the 19th century. There were many factories here that manufactured textiles. The state also campaigned for the abolition of slavery and was the first state to establish a black regiment, the legendary 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, in the Civil War. Today the Robert Gould Shaw memorial in Boston commemorates the 54th Regiment.

The Great Depression hit Massachusetts hard when industrialization withdrew in the early 20th century. The Kennedy family played a major role in politics and American diplomacy. The main individuals were Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy.
